Will mixes like goldendoodles and labradoodles become their own breeds (or have their own standards)? ?r=?

greeneyed.kaye asked:

I won’t be getting a dog anytime soon, but I was wondering if by the time I’m out of college if there would probably be more standardization in some of the poodle mixes. How long does it take for a breed to become an official breed?

The people breeding these dogs dont care and also getting plus poo mixes.

  14. philospher77 Says:

For those people who are saying that they can’t become a breed because they don’t “have a purpose”… it’s not a given that a breed has to have a specific task to do in order to be a breed. Most of the toy group have no purpose except to be companion animals. And for those who claim that it takes hundreds of years to establish a breed… dog shows didn’t start until the 1850’s, and at first only included the main sporting breeds. The AKC didn’t even exist until 1884.

So it is quite possible for the doodles to become a breed. It would take an establishment of a breed club, and someone determining what a “perfect” doodle should be like, and then breeders working to meet that standard and developing a dog that breeds true. It’s not a slam-dunk thing, but not impossible, either.

  15. WyrDachsie Says:

The reason is they dont breed true ive have seen mixes of like big fluffy mixbreed.
